Saltwater Taffy
Indulge your sweet tooth into Saltwater Taffy. I’m happy to share my quilt called Saltwater Taffy with you today.
This is my own design. It has both squares and half square triangles, that come together to create this modern quilt. The quilt came about because I had scraps and small remnants from another project.
I wanted to try a white background and see how that plays with the colorful fabrics. It was lesson on value, contrast and using a modern color palette.
My quilting goal was to have enough open space to add free motion and ruler work. I used Superior Thread So Fine 451 on the top and bottom. The batting was Warm & White.
I spent time marking out this beautiful quilt top. I had fun coming up with several designs. It was quilted on my Handi Quilter Sweet Sixteen
I started with ruler work to make squares within the squares. This type of quilting is free motion, but with a special ruler foot and ruler to guide the design.
The free motion quilting allows me to quilt small swirl and pebble designs.
The border was a simple piano key design. The quilt measure 38”x 33 ½”
